Winter Issue — #1

  FibreFest International — April 17th to 18th, 2004

FibreFest International 2004 is an annual exhibition and conference for Fibre enthusiasts.

This premier event will be held at Tradex, in Abbotsford, British Columbia, on the weekend of April 17th and 18th. Tradex is the Fraser Valley's Trade and Convention Center, a beautiful 60,000 square foot air conditioned building, located at the Abbotsford Airport. The show is being hosted by Marilyn Ross of Sterling Farms.

FibreFest will incorporate "world class" workshops with top instructors from Western Canada. Vendors' booths will be selling everything from raw fibre to quality finished goods. FibreFest is a marketplace containing the wonderful works of local Artisans, a Fashion show, Instructor's exhibits, as well as live sheep, cashmere goats, llamas and alpacas on display, to show off the source for much of the fine fibre available for sale.

FibreFest International is dedicated to the art of fibre, the love of animals, and the pride taken in finished creations. The goal of FibreFest is to bring together weavers, spinners, quilters, fibre animal fanciers, fibre artists, children, and the interested public in a joint atmosphere of appreciation, learning and camaraderie.

Over 30 Workshops!

Some of the main attractions at FibreFest are the many workshops put on by leading West Coast instructors. The show's premier workshop is being hosted by Laura Fry, and is titled "Magic in the Water". Laura's weaving is renown in North America, and her work recently appeared on the cover of the December, 2003 issue of Handwoven Magazine.

In all, over thirty workshops are being held at FibreFest, and some of the many topics being instructed include spinning, weaving, felting, knitting, quilting, beading, and fibre preparation, to name just a few. For a complete list of the workshops, please visit the FibreFest website at: www.fibrefestinternational.com

Key Attractions For Enthusiasts of All Ages!

A Fashion Show —See the beautiful work of local Artisans and Designers using woven textiles, knitwear, and felted items. All the articles are made with natural fibre and will be on display and available for sale.

Spinning Demonstrations —Members of local clubs and guilds will be in attendance demonstrating their skills. Plus, we also have a Spinning Drop-In Clinic to answer all of your spinning questions.

Felting Seminars —A 2-hour seminar and two felting workshops will take place. Felted products will also be readily available for purchase at various vendors' booths.

Oriental Rugs —Will be on display and available for purchase. These will be 100% Tibetan and New Zealand wool carpets which are mostly "one of a kind" items.

Beading Demonstrations —Will take place at regular intervals throughout both days, hosted by a local jewelry artist.

Fibre Animals —Will be exhibited, including llamas, huacaya alpacas, suri alpacas, sheep, cashmere goats, angora rabbits, and you will have the opportunity to speak to the owners of these animals and ask your many questions.

Natural Fibre —Natural fibre in raw and processed forms from a variety of fibre animals will be presented and available for sale.

Fleece on the Hoof —Is a concept that is going to take place this year as well. Because FibreFest occurs early in the season, before shearing has taken place, a number of local farms will have samples of fibre available along with pictures of their animals. Customers will be able to pre-order fleeces and pick them up once shearing has been completed.

Fibre Mill —Representatives will be available to answer your questions, and pick up and take away your fibre for processing.

Booth Demonstrations —Workshop Presenters who are not teaching classes on both days will be giving demonstrations at their booths, and have their works for sale.

Fibre Processing Equipment —Including spinning wheels, weaving looms, etc. will be featured at several vendor booths and will be available for purchase.

A Market Place —Containing the creations of local Artisans, with products on display and available for purchase.

Raffles —Several raffles will take place throughout the weekend, with a variety of beautiful fibre products offered as prizes.

And for the Children —There will be 4H information, displays and competitions. If you wish to learn more about 4H and are thinking of getting your children involved, come and speak with the 4H leaders at the show and experience 4H activities first hand. There will also be Children's Knitting Workshops taking place on both Saturday & Sunday morning.

Fibre Vendors Galore!  Stuff to See — Stuff to Buy!
