Spring Issue — #2

 From The Editor

This issue provides a journey across Canada with a few stops around the world thrown in too... We travel not only geographically, but also chronologically, touching base with Art & Craft in pre-European-contact West Coast Canada, pre-Christian Europe, and early settlement days in Atlantic Canada. We found it a fascinating trip!

This months's “Spotlight Interview” is with Stephany Pryce, a Haida artist, currently residing on Vancouver Island. The Haida were among Canada's first artists and their unique designs and style are still popular today.

We travelled to the Prairies for our Media article… Pysanka or Ukrainian Easter Eggs have been a craft in the Ukraine since pre-Christian times and have evolved over many generations and cultures, been forced underground during times of political upheaval, survived immigration and thrived in a new land... Can it be more Canadian than that?

We stopped in Ontario to Ask an Artist for tips on making the Commission Process successful for both artist and customer.

Our Feature Art & Craft Event is the Artists’ Studio Tour in the Pontiac region of Quebec, beautiful rolling countryside about an hour west of Ottawa.

The next in our series on The History of Craft in Canada takes us to Quebec and Atlantic Canada to explore the traditions and beauty of Hooked Rugs.

Our Guest Article from Robert Genn is on the making of dyes in Morocco... Making dyes from items at hand was a central theme in several of our feature articles, especially those on Hooked Rugs and Pysanky. Morocco is a long way from Canada geographically, but making dyes is universal.

Our Dollars and Sense Tips focus on getting yourself known in your own corner of the world... This issue is on donating artwork to charitable functions and how to make it work for you, too, if you do.

We are both pleased and honoured to bring the Art & Craft Community of Canada together to share insights, advice, and even a bit of humour.

We hope you'll join us by subscribing to our A&CNet e-Zine Newsletter, becoming a member, or taking advantage of our many services. We have a passion for Art & Craft and hope to do our small part in making it a thriving Industry in Canada.

We hope you enjoy this issue as much as we enjoyed making it.

All the best to you!
